Got a question? Let us answer it for you.
As a company with a long history in remote power, we are often asked questions that we believe would be helpful to a broader audience. We have listed some of these questions and answers here.
What information is required for TEG or TEG System quotation?
- End destination country
- Application type
- Constant loads (amps, voltage, watts)
- Intermittent loads (amps, voltage, duty cycle)
- Maximum and minimum ambient temperatures
- Fuel type (Natural Gas or Propane)
- If natural gas, what is the gas composition, pressures and temperatures?
- Autonomy of battery back up if required
If I turn the fuel pressure down will it help me on fuel consumption or will this hinder performance?
Yes, turning down the pressure will reduce fuel consumption. It will likely reduce the power output and will not damage the unit in any way or affect the life of the system.
How long will a power unit on a TEG usually last?
TEGs have a 20-year design life, but over the years have demonstrated a life up to 30 years.
How loud are Global's generators?
TEGs are very quiet relative to most other power generators. Because there are no moving parts, the only source of sound is the gaseous fuel burner. This is one reason TEGs are well suited to security and surveillance applications. Please see product spec sheets or contact Global for details, as the noise level varies by product.
Can you put the systems together if your site grows — like batteries?
Yes. Additional TEGs can easily be added in increments over time and "ganged" together.
Do you have any suggestions for operating LPG systems in extremely cold temperatures?
Providing that you are operating above -20C there are a number of things we would suggest:
- Plan to fill your tank just before the coldest season to have as much wetted tank surface as possible in contact with outside air.
- Locate fuel containers in sunny, wind protected site.
OR
- take advantage of insulating value of deep snow drifts where possible.
OR
- Provide insulation from low ambient temperatures using an enclosure, straw or other such material.
OR
- Paint tanks with dark color to absorb the sun's heat.
OR
- Use LP gas vaporizers if necessary and where practical. (Vapourizers also consume fuel)
If you expect temperatures below -20C we would recommend you speak to a Global representative for a more customized solution.
